Channel 4 commission.
This work arose from the solo exhibition 'All mountains are moving' at Limerick city gallery of Art. I composed a meditative work to accompany a slow moving, large-scale video projection of the insides of small beach pebbles scaned at a high DPI. A much shortened version of this was commissioned by the Arts Program 'Random Acts' for Channel 4 television in London.
Bathing in the light.
Taiwan International Video Art Biennial
The curatorial title for this exhibition was 'Melancholy in Progress'. The video installation begins with the iconic image of Donald Campbell attempting to break the water speed record at Lake Coniston, England in 1967. He dies trying. The soundtrack uses a Vocoder which attempts to harmonise Cambell’s last words and the sound of the rocket powered engine that delivered him to his end.
Timeloss recognition.
'Intimacies', Context gallery, Derry.
This work was commissioned as part of the group show 'Intimacies'. It takes the form of a 5.1 surround sound composition to be played in darkness in an old cinema/theatre in Derry. The main aural ingredients were the utterances and sounds made by domestic pets, when left alone.
Hermit.
LUX13, 'How does the group function'
LUX13 invited LUX Critical Forums from Dublin & Glasgow to present an evening of new moving image work. Each artist was given a word and a three minute limit. My word was Hermit. The video plays with the idea of lens flares, aligning the movement of these mysterious orbs of lights with a Hermit, rumoured to be found in a cave high in the French Pyrenees. It suggests that he somehow has power over their movement, rather like the ball in the early video game 'Pong'. The soundtrack reflects this dubious assertion.
